How can reading music be an advantage?

Many musicians can't read music, including many famous ones. How much does it really matter?

Reading music helps you learn pieces faster, communicate with other musicians, understand theory, play diverse genres, and sight-read new music. If musicians are unable.to read music, that is unfortunate.

Yeah, it's amazing even musicians like Beatles couldn't because it's not too hard to get an intermediate understanding at least.

But then again, music can be quite fun spontaneously, not thinking about what you're playing.
